Collaborate Safely Over The Internet |
The
ClientK.
Mardell & Co. are a relatively new firm of solicitors focusing on
commercial property. In order to contain costs, they currently use serviced
offices.
The
Problem
The
Client has seen rapid growth in its workload and has taken the decision to
increase the effort available by contracting out appropriate elements. The
contractor works from different premises but needs access to case files and
other information currently stored on the Client's PC.
Because
the Client is in serviced offices, creating a direct connection over the
Internet is not an option using the shared Internet facilities. Also, the
Client was not keen on a third party gaining access to their PCs used day to
day in the office. On the other hand, it was preferred that the Client's data
was shared from within their offices as opposed to using a third party site on
the Internet to upload and download files.

Seven Day Interruption to Business Avoided |
The
ClientHertfordshire
Horologists Ltd repair watches for both jewellery chains and individual shops.
The Company has trained technicians to handle the top marques and it is a very
busy and successful business. Watches are sent in by post and each watch is
inspected and logged before being handed over to the technicians. Sage is used
both for the financials and for tracking the process of a watch repair.
The Problem
It was noticed that a bank reconciliation appeared not to have cleared the
appropriate client payments. On further investigation, it became clear that
there had been some form of corruption of the Sage system. Although the Client
subscribed to the full Sage support package, Sage required 7 days to clear the
problems because of their current load. But the real bad news was that no
further entries could be made to the live system until the fixed database was
returned.
